CHARON

«Charon's heart, swollen with anger, was at peace: he said nothing more. Contemplating the venerable gift of the fatal shoot, which he had not seen for a long time, the helmsman turned his brown stern, approached the shore. "

(Aeneid, VI 506-511)

Chárōn is an exhibition project inspired by the problem of forest fires. In 2017, numerous episodes occurred throughout Italy, touching the record of 74,965 hectares of woods burned in just seven months.

Son of Erebus and Night, Charon ferries the souls of the dead beyond the Acheron, towards Hades. Similarly, Marta Di Donna, Francesca Mussi and Vincenzo Zancana transport the lifeless bodies of trees and plants to their extreme abode. The large trunks and branches present in Chárōn (project sponsored by ERSAF Lombardia) were taken from the Sasso Malascarpa nature reserve, in the province of Como, following the fire in January 2017.
